I took my first cruise to celebrate my friends’ first wedding anniversary on Royal Caribbean’s Allure of the Seas (the largest cruise ship in the world!) and had a blast! It was definitely not my usual style of traveling, of investigating each place thoroughly, but nonetheless, it was a great experience. It was nice to not have to plan everything out and all I had to worry about was getting to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and getting on the boat. I thought I would get bored on the boat, yet was looking forward to disconnecting as I didn’t want to be charged an arm and a leg for cell phone coverage, but boy, was I wrong! From the boardwalk with a real carousel and a rock climbing wall, to the numerous pools, to the royal promenade with restaurants and the Rising Tide, a bar that raised and lowered between floors, to “Central Park” which had plants from all over the world and is cared for by THREE full-time gardeners (and it had a great wine bar 😉 ) and I can’t forget the amazing dinners with phenomenal waitstaff!
I also saw the Broadway musical, Chicago(!) and went to a 1920’s Prohibition themed party that you had to get an invitation to get into!
This cruise definitely changed my mind on cruises. I will definitely continue to travel mostly how I normally do – spending time getting to know the places I go, but I will most likely be going on more cruises in the future!
